On the evening of the July 28 concert in Kaunas, world-famous American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis was presented his family tree proving the singer’s Lithuanian roots. Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis and on the initiative of Lithuanian diplomats produced for Kiedis a genealogy chart dating back to the end of the 1800s that shows the family line to his great-grandparents in Tauragė County.
The group leader regretted that the visit to Lithuania was so short this time.
“Lithuania is the land from which your ancestors, Anthony and Julia Kiedis, originated. On the country’s behalf, let me say that we very fascinated by your musical talent and we are happy that at least part of it is of Lithuanian origin, “- said Ažubalis with the gift for the singer presented in a letter.
The Minister pointed out that singing has always been of great importance to the Lithuanian identity, maintaining a connection even to pagan times and providing an inspiration for new generations.
“I am confident that a closer look at the endless layers of Lithuanian culture would lead to new ideas, creating beautiful songs such as those by the rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers,“ – writes Ažubalis.
