Statistics Lithuania informs that the numbers of tourists visiting the country has increased in the last quarter and shows a marked improvement, in comparison with the 2011 figures.
According to the provisional data of Statistics Lithuania, in III quarter 2012, accommodation establishments accommodated by 9.8 per cent more guests than in the same quarter of 2011, and received 720.5 thousand tourists. The number of tourists from the EU countries made up 261.6 thousand (by 4.1 per cent more than in the same quarter 2011), tourists from non-EU countries – 161.6 thousand (by 31.6 per cent more).
The majority of foreign tourists were from Germany – 71.7 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 63.5 thousand), Russia – 71.5 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 50.2 thousand), Poland – 47.2 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 48.6 thousand), Belarus – 32.9 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 21.8 thousand), Latvia – 25 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 21.5 thousand), Finland – 14.4 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 12.8 thousand), the United Kingdom – 13.8 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 10.8 thousand), Italy –13.7 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 15.6 thousand), and Estonia – 13.7 thousand (in III quarter 2011, 13.2 thousand).
The number of Lithuania’s residents accommodated grew by 5.4 per cent and totaled 297.3 thousand.
