President: after 2 years of economic growth, it is possible cautiously to raise salaries

As economists, financial analysts speak about the second wave of the crisis, President Dalia Grybauskaitė says that Lithuania is still able to afford thinking about the careful and estimated increase of wage. However, according to the President, wage increase can not lead to the budget deficit higher than 3 percent, Delfi.lt reported on 23 July.

‘I have already mentioned that having in mind we have managed the situation, we can think carefully about the increase of minimum wage and basic wage because we should not only reserve but to stimulate the economy as well. Calculating carefully and within this framework we can – that is 3 percent within the framework of the budget deficit, ‘- said D. Grybauskaitė to journalists.

Currently the base rate used for the calculation of state politicians, judges, public officials and public servants official salaries is 450 Lt, and the base monthly salary used to calculate the salaries of teachers and librarians is 122 Lt. Before the crisis the base rate was 490 Lt, the base monthly salary – 128 Lt.

Currently the minimum monthly salary is 800 Lt before taxes, but the Government has approved its increase to 850 Lt.

‘Even within the same budget framework, there are many reserves, but some of our rules are so strict that it is impossible to reallocate funds in the inside. Thus, it is possible to increase wages without increasing resources in the same framework, for example to cultural employees, whose salaries are the smallest. This is being proceeded: The government is slowly changing the so-called five hundred eleventh resolution, where within the allocation framework, if there is saving, would be easier to move, to raise salaries for some’ – said the President in Anykščiai.

Asked whether she speaks about the raise of both basic wage types, D. Grybauskaitė said that it is necessary to think horizontally, i.e. do not harm anyone.

‘There are many types of base salary, it is necessary to think horizontally – without any harm to anyone’- said the President.

‘Economic is growing for two years consecutively, people should start to feel it, because the economy needs not only saving, but also the promotion of consumption within the framework where we are able to do this “- she added.
